[Athen] AIM customization for Alt Format Production

Hi Eric,

Yes, staff can self assign assignments. Separating readings by week is also a smart idea. We like to keep readings for a class under one "book" entry so it easier to track from quarter to quarter. This way if another student needs readings for the same class in another quarter, we can cross check if the readings are the same as the syllabus to save conversion labor and time.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Warmly,

Ali Steenis

We're just prepping to updgrade to 5, also interested to hear how people have set up their Alt Text Modules in AIM V5. In the past I haven't given student editors access to AIM, because I couldn't restrict them to just the Alt text, and didn't feel comfortable with them having access to case notes and medical documentation. So we haven't really used the work assignments, everything has just been a work order. Ali, for the work assignments are staff able to self assign?

For weekly readings, I usually do a work order for each week, but that's in Version 4, but sounds like the work assignments might be a better solution in V5?

Hello,

We create a custom ISBN for the readings needed for a specific class. Then we will create specific assignments for individual readings or handout conversions that can be assigned to different staff. This has worked well for us in V4 and V5 so far.

If you have any other questions, I'm happy to be a resource.

ATHEN Community,
If your college disability office uses AIM and you have managed to design a usable Alternative Format Production module, I would love to hear from you. We are embarking on our development of the AIM 5.0 Alt Formats and could use some examples of how you've configured it to work with your workflow. We do more handouts, worksheets, and lecture slides, than we do full textbooks, but the AIM Alt Text module seems to be primarily built for textbook requests and fulfillment. If you are willing to share an outline, or flow chart of your AIM configuration, it would help us understand the capabilities. You can email me off list if you don't feel comfortable sharing this information so widely. Thanks in advance for helping with our transition to the AIM platform. Best regards,
