Hello ATHEN Community,

Big news: the ATHEN list is getting a new home!

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be moving the list to Groups.io<http://Groups.io>—including our membership and (as quickly as possible) our archived history—so we can keep everything we love about ATHEN while gaining some great new capabilities.

What’s changing?

In simple terms: we’re moving providers.
We’ll be migrating the full userbase to Groups.io<http://Groups.io>, and we’re also prioritizing the migration of our historical archives so the knowledge and conversations that shaped ATHEN remain available for everyone.

Key dates and what to expect

Saturday, February 28, 2026

The current ATHEN list will be placed into read-only mode.

* You’ll still be able to browse and search past messages as you do today
* Posting and new subscriptions will be disabled

Weekend of February 28 – March 1

Your admin team will be hard at work migrating everything to Groups.io<http://Groups.io>. As soon as all members are successfully in place on the new platform, we’ll open the new list for posting and participation.

Archive migration

We’ll be coordinating directly with the Groups.io<http://Groups.io> team to bring over our historical archives. This portion may take a bit longer, but it is a top priority, and we’ll keep you updated as milestones are reached.

What happens when the new list goes live?

Once the Groups.io<http://Groups.io> list is active, we’ll send a welcome message with:

* Exactly how to post and participate
* Helpful tips for getting started
* A quick tour of new features like calendars, file storage, and more

Questions?

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out anytime at board at athenpro.org<mailto:board at athenpro.org>.

A Sincere Thank You

We’d like to offer our heartfelt thanks to the University of Washington for hosting the ATHEN list for so many years. Their openness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to accessibility and inclusion have made this partnership truly special. We’re deeply grateful for the relationship we’ve built—and we’re excited to continue working together as we collaborate on future initiatives. Thank you, University of Washington. You’ve been incredible partners and genuine superstars!

In Conclusion

Thanks for being part of what makes ATHEN such a vibrant, generous, and brilliant community. Stay tuned—this is going to be a fun upgrade!

Warmly,

Jeff Bishop
ATHEN President
