Hello students,

I hope you are doing well! The biology department is looking for a lab helper for the rest of the academic year. The job description is below. To apply, please send your resume and a short cover letter to bio-ins-svcs at uw.edu<mailto:bio-ins-svcs at uw.edu> by November 15th. We are looking to fill this position as soon as possible.

Job Intro: The Biology Teaching Labs are looking for a new Lab Helper. This is an hourly job with flexible hours within the Biology department. This is not a laboratory research position, but past applicants have used this experience to successfully find lab jobs. Please make sure that you understand the job description and the requirements before applying.

Job Description: The Lab Helper will assist with the set-up and break-down of the Biology Labs for the introductory series. The helper will work 10-20 hours per week, mostly on Fridays or weekends after Thursday evening and before early Monday morning. Duties include washing glassware and instruments, cleaning and restocking the teaching labs and some technical instrumentation. Willingness to work with terrestrial vertebrates and marine invertebrates on a University of Washington Animal Care Protocol is required. The Lab Helper should be willing to carefully complete a list of tasks and effectively communicate questions and confirm understanding of the list each week. The tasks are very independent and fairly routine, but they must be done carefully and reliably each week. Some weeks for some tasks will require precise timing of a few laboratory procedures, so organization and being generally close to campus is preferred. The starting rate is minimum wage.
