Hi everybody,
As the school year gets under way, I want to highlight a few services and updates from the Counseling Center<https://wellbeing.uw.edu/topic/mental-health/>. You already know we offer short-term counseling<https://wellbeing.uw.edu/mental-health/one-on-one-support/> and referrals<https://wellbeing.uw.edu/mental-health/ongoing-therapy-resources/>. Students in crisis can also be seen same day in 401 Schmitz Hall (arrive between 8am and 4pm M, W, Th, F, and between 9:30am and 4pm on Tu). Below are updates about a new partnership and our other services.
New Partnership for Intensive Outpatient Program
This year, we are partnering with a community provider, A Mission for Michael (AMFM) Healthcare to provide Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) services for our students on the Seattle campus and remotely. For the ramp up period, students who want in-person services will be seen at the nearby Green Lake Clinic in their Mission Connection<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/missionconnectionhealthcare.com/our-facilities/washington/__;!!K-Hz7m0Vt54!n4A_ZYJhicfje4iciU9jm3lscmZCyWAIyLi8web_IPy3FK4W2QpELdhS6rxoAL5kPiQqaFw9_Z0yEv30Sma3HTbtn51ymCA3$> program right now. They bill insurance and do not take Medicaid but offer a limited number of scholarships. We have seen an increase in the number of students who are experiencing severe mental disorders, and this IOP partnership is meant to serve students who need more. If you are working with a student who needs to be in treatment three times a week, please have the student reach out to the Counseling Center to get a referral.
Hira Moten, Mission Connection therapist, will be providing a training to our campus on using the LEAP<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/leapinstitute.org/__;!!K-Hz7m0Vt54!n4A_ZYJhicfje4iciU9jm3lscmZCyWAIyLi8web_IPy3FK4W2QpELdhS6rxoAL5kPiQqaFw9_Z0yEv30Sma3HTbtn0x0Quqs$> (Listen-Empathize-Agree-Partner) model that was developed to work with people experiencing psychosis on Wednesday, October 30th, 1pm-2:30pm in the Alder Auditorium. Please join us and share with others on campus.

Let's Talk is a great option if you are unsure if you need counseling, unsure where to start or if you need mental health referrals off campus.
