This November, speakers from International Studies/Comparative History of Ideas, the iSchool and the Burke Museum chat with student moderator, Samantha-Lynn Martinez, about how people, especially people in university settings, approach the development and discovery of "knowledge," and how we can value and practice a wider variety of "Ways of Knowing."

Polly Olsen is a Yakama tribal member, former executive director of the Association of American Indian Physicians and winner of the UW’s Distinguished Staff Award. Now director of DEI & Decolonization and tribal liaison at the Burke Museum of Natural History, Olsen contributes multiple forms of wisdom to influence educational opportunities, institutions and agencies.

José Antonio "Tony" Lucero (International Studies, Geography, American Indian Studies, CHID) was born in Texas and raised on both sides of the Mexico-US border. He's now researching (1) conflicts between Indigenous peoples and agents of extractive industry in Peru and (2) human rights activism, religion, and Indigenous politics at the border.

Katie Davis (iSchool/College of Education) investigates the impact of digital technologies on young people’s learning, development, and well-being, and co-designs positive technology experiences for youth and their families. Her work bridges the fields of human development, human-computer interaction, and early learning sciences.
