Greetings Geographers,

This is a final reminder that the Honors in Geography application for 2024-2025 is open! Honors in Geography<https://geography.washington.edu/ba-honors-geography> is a fantastic program for those of you who are passionate about the work you are doing in the department and have ideas of your own you want to study.

This is a wonderful chance for you to explore research like- "Why are all our National Parks named after random men and not the Indigenous names they had for centuries?"; "Can web maps be an accessible tool for people with differing abilities?"; or "How can census data be mapped to show the best neighborhoods for dog-lovers?"- the possibilities are yours to decide!

Requirements for Honors in Geography:

* Eligibility to apply:
* Applicants are highly encouraged to have completed GEOG 315, Explanation and Understanding in Geography, or an alternative course in social science research design, before entrance into the honors program. Applicants who have not taken GEOG 315 should plan to register for it in the autumn quarter of their senior year.
* GPA of at least 3.50 in GEOG courses, and overall UW GPA of 3.40 or above.
* Completion requirements:
* Successful completion of three quarters (AUT-WIN-SPR) of the Undergraduate Honors Seminar, GEOG 497. This seminar is a 3-credit course that helps students design, execute, write, and present a research project. It's a chance for seniors to build upon their passions and interests in geography in a larger, more complex project, while forging relations of support and caring within a small group of like-minded geographers. Students learn to help and support others in their work, share and exchange resources and ideas, and give and get constructive feedback.
* An honors project, for example a significant-length research paper or extensive digital project, resulting from substantial research.

Deadline for applications is Friday, April 12, 2024 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time. (Selected applicants will be invited for an interview by end of April 2024.) For more information and to apply, visit Honors in Geography<https://geography.washington.edu/ba-honors-geography>. As always, please send any questions you may have to us at geogadv at uw.edu<mailto:geogadv at uw.edu>!
