I am excited to share a new, upcoming course offering for Autumn 2024: MELC 196 Elementary Amharic.

Course Details:

*       Credits: 5 credits and Social Sciences (SSc)

*       Offered: Autumn 2024


Description:
Amharic is the National Language of Ethiopia, the main language of political economy in the Horn of Africa, and a language spoken in diaspora communities across the world. This course teaches Amharic -- including its unique writing script - while also familiarizing students with history and culture from the Horn of Africa.

Why students should be excited and what they can expect:
Come try this new course which is part of a new program focusing on the Horn of Africa. Learn Amharic - the national language of Ethiopia and a language spoken by a growing community in the Pacific Northwest -- while gaining an introduction to history and culture of the Horn. Great preparation for students interested in pursuing careers in translation, international studies, or business.
