[GEOG MAJORS] For Geography Students: Autumn 2024 End-of-Quarter Reminders

Greetings Geographers,

Recently the Office of the University Registrar sent out the email below with helpful reminders of deadlines to drop a class (December 6) or change your grading option to S/NS (December 13). If you are considering dropping a class or changing your grading option, please come talk to your advisers first! We can explain the steps and clarify the ways these registration changes may affect your degree progress.

  *   Do you know your current grade in your classes, using the Standard Grading System<https://www.washington.edu/students/gencat/front/Grading_Sys.html#GRADE>? Many instructors grade assignments using a 100-point scale and then convert the final course grade to the Standard Grading System. Do you know the grade conversion table that your instructor will use for this purpose? If not, we recommend that you check the course syllabus or reach out to your instructor to ask!
  *   Remember the lowest passing grade in the Standard Grading System is 0.7. If you change your grading option to S/NS, the “Satisfactory” grade<https://www.washington.edu/students/gencat/front/Grading_Sys.html#NONGRADE> is at least 2.0, and even then a course in which an “S” is earned may not be used to satisfy any department, college, or university requirement.

Autumn quarter 2024 is coming to an end on Friday, Dec. 13, 2024, and we want to remind you of the deadlines associated with the Current Quarter Drop and the S/NS Grading Option change process — and to draw your attention to the new Incomplete Grade Policy and request form.

Current Quarter Drop Process

To drop more than one class or withdraw from the quarter entirely, use the Adviser Assisted Drop Request Process.

Incomplete Grade Policy and Request Form

·    Starting on the third week before the end of the quarter, you may submit the Incomplete Grade Request form to your instructor.
·    Review the new Incomplete Grade Policy<https://we.discover.uw.edu/NTI3LUFIUi0yNjUAAAGXKLG7tAJTB9iaNdIRoaoSocEyrBMxrNB4o8B-EYdUOniUv1BIJRHO9LwYYViflL1H6MLhe3s=>, and access the Incomplete Grade Request form if you wish to ask for an Incomplete grade for a course this quarter.



Graduating in autumn 2024?

For those of you graduating at the end of the quarter, congratulations!

While autumn quarter grades are due at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024, and posted to transcripts the following day, it may take several weeks once the quarter has ended for your degree to be granted and posted to your transcript.

Students who have completed all requirements to graduate will get an email confirming their official graduation status once their degree is granted. This email will have the subject “University of Washington Notification of Degree Posting: Next Steps.” It will be sent from registra at uw.edu<mailto:registra at uw.edu> to your uw.edu email. If you haven’t already done so, be sure to set up email forwarding from your UW email account, as you will lose access to your UW email in the months following your last quarter of registration.

Once you have received this email, review your unofficial transcript on MyUW and verify that what has been posted on your transcript matches your degree, major, and minor expectations. If there are any discrepancies, reach out to your academic adviser as soon as possible; you will have 45 days from the date of the email to notify our office of any errors. After that time, no other changes can be made to your academic record once your degree has been posted.

If you have not received this email within a month after the quarter has ended and do not see your degree posted on your unofficial transcript, you have not graduated (even if you attended the Commencement ceremony or your departmental graduation ceremony). Reach out to your adviser as soon as possible to follow up on your graduation status.
