Greetings Geographers,

We are excited to invite you to an information session for the 2024 Plenum Undergraduate Geography Journal<https://geography.washington.edu/plenum-journal-undergraduate-geography>! This journal is made by undergraduates for undergraduates, intending to showcase the current work in our department and other social science majors. Enjoy a hot chocolate bar and hang out with friends, classmates and your friendly geography advisers! 😊

When: Tuesday, February 6, 12:30-1:30 PM
Where: Smith Hall 411 (Geography Shared Study Space/Student Lounge)

For this session, we’ll be joined by one or two recent members of the Plenum editorial team to share reflections on publishing the online journal and offer advice for how to get involved in this year’s edition. The journal’s annual schedule includes accepting article submissions, reading and editing those submissions, and finalizing the journal in spring quarter. We are looking for people to join the journal’s production team, including roles like editors, web designers, and event coordinators. Throughout the year, students will learn skills regarding scholarly journals and what it means to produce a scholarly article. Additionally, the journal offers an opportunity to build a community of undergraduates within the Department of Geography (and larger interdisciplinary majors). We will hold various activities outside of the journal making processes, like coffee hours with professors and graduate students and much more!
