The Department of Cinema & Media Studies has an amazing summer course for students to be able to learn and produce video essays through CMS 297 A: Video Essay Lab. This is a rare opportunity for students to be able to create their own work and receive A&H credit in the process! This is open to all majors.

VIDEO ESSAY SUMMER LAB
This course invites students to experiment with the creation of video essays. A genre that has experienced a significant rise in popularity in recent years, the video essay is a video piece that advances an argument using images and sounds.

In this part seminar part hands-on course, we will examine various styles of video essays and the formal and rhetorical strategies used to express ideas creatively and effectively through audiovisual means. Students will have the chance to experiment with different techniques, culminating in the production of their own video essays. No previous knowledge of video editing or film theory is required.
