Please join us at 12:30 in Room 409 on Tuesday May 6 for our Food for Thought session featuring:

Mateo Espinosa on Rooted in Resilience: Agroecology, Food Sovereignty, and Indigenous Health Epistemologies

Students and faculty are invited to gather as Mateo shares his team's experiences on how Ecuadorian farmers, particularly from Indigenous and Amazonian communities face multiple crises through agroecological and traditional farming systems. They work together with a campesino agriculture that emphasizes autonomy and (ground)ing, food sovereignty being a key theme here. Central to this discussion is a health epistemology that intertwines agriculture with well-being. Indigenous and Amazonian cultures view soil, plants, rivers, and community as inseparable from physical, spiritual, and social health. Join us to investigate how this old knowledge fosters new resilient food systems and health paradigms, challenging hegemonic health and agricultural models, to envision futures of abundance.
