Greetings Geographers,
Registration for SPR 2025 is coming up very soon! To get ready, please check out the Office of the University Registrar's registration resources<https://registrar.washington.edu/registration/resources/> as well as the registrar email included below our signature. In this message we've also included some reminders about spring quarter geography classes. But first, please know there are many resources available to help you take care of your health & wellbeing this winter:
* We have a page on our website dedicated to critical resources both on- & off campus<https://geography.washington.edu/critical-resources>.
* Check in with Disability Resources for Students<http://depts.washington.edu/uwdrs/> (DRS) as needed.
* Academic Support Programs<http://www.academicsupport.washington.edu/study-skills/> (ASP) provides support for students where you can:
* Meet with a CLUE tutor through drop-in tutoring or scheduled appointments<http://www.academicsupport.washington.edu/clue/>
* Stop by an exam review<https://events.uaa.uw.edu/view/2> led by CLUE tutors
* Meet with an Academic Success Coach through drop-in coaching or scheduled appointments<http://www.academicsupport.washington.edu/academic-success-coach/>
* Come to a study skills workshop<http://www.academicsupport.washington.edu/study-skills/study-skills-workshops/> led by Academic Success Coaches
* Reach out for Mental Health Care<https://wellbeing.uw.edu/topic/mental-health/> anytime!
* Please also remember the Odegaard Writing and Research Center (OWRC)<http://www.lib.washington.edu/ougl/owrc> is available for writing support.
With just a few days before Registration Period I begins for SPR 2025<https://registrar.washington.edu/academic-calendar/pi-reg-dates-spring-2025/>, please note the following to help you plan for registration:
1. SPR 2025 GEOG courses are available to view in MyPlan<http://myplan.uw.edu> and on the Department of Geography website<https://geography.washington.edu/courses/2025/spring/all>.
2. Please always review all section notes available on the course details page in MyPlan. Sometimes that means you must click the link for the SLN in order to find all of the section notes. These include important information about the schedule, registration restrictions, prerequisites, and more!
3. Double-check whether you will satisfy all prerequisites for your SPR 2025 courses by the end of WIN 2025.
4. Please visit our Geography Advising webpage<https://geography.washington.edu/advising> if you'd like to make an appointment to plan your spring quarter schedule. You are welcome to visit virtual Drop-In Advising<https://geography.washington.edu/advising> for quick questions & concerns on Wednesdays, 2:00-4:00 PM, via Zoom (except February 19). We've also created a Degree Planning guide<https://geography.washington.edu/degree-planning> to help you plan courses to complete your geography major.
5. Among the many great GEOG classes available next quarter, we also have 1 special topics class: GEOG 395 A "Mapping the World: From Environment and Empire to the Digital Age." Maps are tools of power and maps are not neutral technologies. They are produced with intended outcomes; they conceal as much information as they reveal and have been produced under particular historical conditions. Who mapped and who was mapped? Why were particular people mapped more than others? How were categories such as race, class, and gender key to mapping? All you need is an interest in maps and mapping! Instructor: Aditya Ramesh<https://history.washington.edu/people/aditya-ramesh>. This course will count for the Cities, Citizenship & Migration track or the GIS, Mapping & Society track in geography.
As always, please don't hesitate to contact us at geogadv at uw.edu<mailto:geogadv at uw.edu>!
