JSIS 498 Section B: Calderwood Seminar<https://myplan.uw.edu/course/#/courses/JSIS%20498?id=f902504a-6ca9-4775-86c5-c1693767ded2&states=N4Ig7gDgziBcLADrgJYDsAmB7MAJApigOYAWALsrAIxUCsAbADTJjrZgAKWUKZKWaSrQDMtAHTDJwqgCYAnAA4FMhbIC%2BINUA> (SLN: 15790)

JSIS 498 Section D: Capitalism in Taiwan and Asia: Semiconductors, Supply Chains, and Money<https://myplan.uw.edu/course/#/courses/JSIS%20498?id=f902504a-6ca9-4775-86c5-c1693767ded2&states=N4Ig7gDgziBcLADrgJYDsAmB7MAJApigOYAWALsrAIxUCsAbADTJjrZgAKWUKZKWaSrQDMtAHTDJwqgCYAnAA4FMhbIC%2BINUA> (SLN 15792)
Instructor: James Lin
T 1130-220, LOW<https://www.washington.edu/maps/#!/low> 114
Description: As AI and military technology rely increasingly on advanced semiconductors and their supply chains, the political and economic systems that drive technological change and production become crucial junctures. This senior reading seminar explores new emerging scholarship on the modern capitalist economy in Taiwan and Asia. We will critically approach capitalism, including understanding how states, politics, and money itself drive capitalist expansion, and how capitalism as a global system generates political, social, and economic ramifications for Asia and the rest of the world. Topics explored will include theoretical readings on global capitalism, and readings specific to semiconductors, supply chains, finance, and global investment focusing on Taiwan and Asia.
