Greetings Geographers,

We are thinking of you during this busy time at the end of the quarter! A couple of weeks ago you may have received an email from the Office of the University Registrar with helpful reminders<https://registrar.washington.edu/winter-2025-end-quarter-reminders/> of deadlines to drop a class (March 14) or change your grading option to S/NS (March 21). If you are considering dropping a class or changing your grading option, please come talk to your advisers first! We can explain the steps and clarify the ways these registration changes may affect your degree progress. Here are a couple things to reflect on:

* Do you know your current grade in your classes, using the Standard Grading System<https://www.washington.edu/students/gencat/front/Grading_Sys.html#GRADE>? Many instructors grade assignments using a 100-point scale and then convert the final course grade to the Standard Grading System. Do you know the grade conversion table that your instructor will use for this purpose? If not, we recommend that you check the course syllabus or reach out to your instructor to ask!
* Remember the lowest passing grade in the Standard Grading System is 0.7. If you change your grading option to S/NS, the “Satisfactory” grade<https://www.washington.edu/students/gencat/front/Grading_Sys.html#NONGRADE> is at least 2.0, and even then a course in which an “S” is earned may not be used to satisfy any department, college, or university requirement.
