[GEOG MAJORS] Summer Study Abroad Colombia

Dear Students,

My name is Dr. Leah Rubinsky and I am co-directing a UW Honors summer study abroad program to Colombia this summer. This is a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant coffee culture and eco-tourism of Colombia while also critically examining tourism, its impacts and injustices.

Program Highlights:
·       July 18th-July 31st: The first part of the program takes place in Seattle, where we will begin to unpack issues of tourism, think about Seattle's relationship to coffee and talk about the Colombian diaspora in the U.S.
·       August 1st - August 22nd: We then fly to beautiful Armenia, Colombia to spend the next three weeks visiting coffee farms and other touristic sites while learning about and analyzing the impacts of tourism on the region. We will also be partnering with students and faculty at the local Quindío University in Armenia to complete collaborative research projects reflecting on the impacts of tourism.

·       Eligibility: Open to all students! YOU DO NOT need to speak Spanish to participate in this program.
·       Credits: This study abroad program fulfills the following requirements: a WRITING credit (up to 10 credits), Social Science credit (5-10 credits), Arts and Humanities credits (up to 10 credits) and a Diversity credit (with Honors enrollment, up to 10 credits.)
