WHAT: With the federal government shut down and unlikely to reopen soon, the Washington Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) is warning that after Friday, October 31, 2025, it will no longer be able to issue SNAP food benefits to the nearly 900,000 Washington residents who rely on them. Any funds on SNAP EBT cards will remain available but no funds will be added. For help getting food while benefits are paused, go to:

WHEN: January 1, 2026
WHAT: The minimum wage for all workers in Washington State will go up starting in January, but how much depends on where you work.
