We are still looking for more graduate student volunteers for this outreach, so please sign up here if you are interested. Here's some info from the outreach lead (Willa Sauer): "We will be meeting at the U Food Bank at 5:20 pm, and will be providing Narcan, hygiene supplies, clothing, and basic medical care to community members from 5:30 until around 8:00pm. Please bring water, and dress for the weather, it might be rainy, and it can get chilly later in the day. You can store a bag in the passenger seat of the van. I recommend bringing layers." Childs ; Anjulie Ganti ; Christina Tran ; Natalie Thiel ; Karissa R. Yamaguchi Subject: Become a Street Med Institute Student Coalition Scholar! Dear University District Street Medicine, Hi Everyone! The Street Medicine Institute Student Coalition is building a program, called "SMISC Scholars" for the students. Becoming a SMISC Scholar is how one "joins" SMISC. We are aiming to form a national coalition with medical and undergraduate students across the country. The benefits of being a SMISC scholar are * opportunities to connect with students involved in Street Medicine across the country * having access to the webinar recordings on homeless health * attending narrative medicine workshops to help process experiences in Street Medicine * growing as a future medical or healthcare professional to better help people experiencing homelessness The requirements for being a SMISC scholar are in the application, which is due March 12 at 11:59 PM EST. Participants can include this, as well as the certificate received for participating in this program, on their CV. Please share this widely with students in the health professions who are interested in working with the underserved. All questions can be directed to studentcoalition@streetmedicine.org. Thank you! We have some open spots, so I thought we could offer it to them. Thanks, Leonora ------ Hello UDSM volunteers, Washington AHEC is excited to share an opportunity with you to participate in the Listening Project at the Seattle King County Clinic on Saturday, April 26th, at the Seattle Center. This opportunity is open to both graduate and undergraduate students. The Listening Project focuses on story-gathering! Students will learn about attendees' perceptions of health, their experiences accessing care, and their perspectives on what health care providers should know about providing good care. This opportunity allows students to practice clinical listening and communication skills, as well as self-reflection and empathy, as they navigate the clinic and speak to clinic patients. You can learn more about this event on the Washington AHEC website: https://ahecwa.org/scholars-events/ Sign-up now for a morning or afternoon shift. Space is limited - we have about 10 open spots (first come first served), so please apply at this registration link by April 4th; accepted applicants will be notified of their shifts by April 7th.
