Tailo isn’t for notetaking, it’s for reading accommodations. Our Redwood SEED students are piloting it here.

Best,

Joshua

Hi All,
I attended the Tailo webinar sponsored by AHEAD on Feb 12 . It was interesting and may be another alternative along with GLEAN which is also AI driven and versatile.(BTW- Glean puts out great webinars and useful data on users and upgrades.) It was not billed as a CART alternative but speech to text and text to speech capability.
I believe the webinar may still be available for viewing.
I am copying the blurb AHEAD put out for Tailo below.
Eileen Berger

"Topic: Sponsored Webinar (Tailo by Estendio): AI for Inclusion- Empowering Access Without Compromising Integrity Description: As AI becomes increasingly integrated into education, it offers powerful strategies for making learning more inclusive and accessible. However, it also raises important questions about academic integrity and ethical boundaries. In this webinar, with Jennifer Murchison, Executive Director, Universal Access & Inclusion and ADA Coordinator, will explore how disability services professionals and educators can harness AI to support diverse learners while maintaining academic standards. Topics include: - Practical strategies for using AI as an addition to an accommodation tool - Differentiating between ethical uses of AI and practices that may compromise academic integrity - Discuss AI tools such as Tailo that promote efficiency in reading through AI implementation as well as supporting accessibility and inclusion needs for reading tasks If you are part of a disability services team or student/academic success, and want to start building your playbook on how AI can support disabled students then don’t miss out on this invaluable session. This event will be recorded and made available on the 'Sponsored Webinars' page after the live webinar has finished."

Hi Ione,

My campus just switched from Otter to Glean. Both apps work similarly though Glean's interface looks different. I'm still rolling this out to campus so I don't have any testimonials to pass along but feel free to contact me off-list.

Hello all,

We previously purchased a license for Otter.ai to provide a cheaper alternative to CART for a student (the student had experience with Otter for this purpose, so it was a good fit). However, our IT department is eager to eliminate Otter from our ecosystem due to security concerns and has asked that we explore other options in its stead. Are any of you using tools as an alternative to CART? If so, I'd greatly appreciate any insights you can offer!

Thanks,

Hello Ione

My university has used remote captioners in the past, which can help fill the gaps for any students who needs human edited captions. We've also used Ava (https://www.ava.me/), which is a blend of human captioning and Otter style automatic captioning. Students can use the automatic captioning, and then request (or schedule) a human captioner for a class. The human edited captions requires more money though.

Hi ,
I have a question about human captioning/CART. Are student requests driving the need for in class CART service? Transcriptions from so many Apps/sources are very close to or equal to the more expensive CART service output. Cart service providers are rare, costly and are not instantly available. What is the rationale for using human CART services over AI driven apps and services that bundle the transcription with note taking, summaries, etc?
