Here are some new classes, returning or special topics for this upcoming winter.
The time schedule for Winter is available, so you can peruse and start building your schedules
Winter 2025 -
BIOL 397 - Avian Specimen Prep - Focuses on the physiology and preparation of birds for use in scientific collections, including hands-on methods for sustainable and accurate display. Currently not on handouts since this is the first time in a decade of being offered
Fulfills: Natural History and lab for both Generals, EEC, MCD and Physio. Breadth for Plant
BIOL 403 - Knowledge Synthesis in Cell Biology- Develops critical thinking skills through evaluating scientific literature and formulating conceptual models of cellular processes. Synthesizes evidence to distinguish claims from data, uses models to generate predictions, and designs experiments. By interpreting data, assessing techniques, and identifying knowledge gaps, students build a sophisticated understanding of topics such as how viruses enter cells and how cells sense mechanical forces.
Fulfills: Electives for both Generals, Plant, MCD and Physio.
BIOL 496L - Exercise Physiology - Human physiology with a focus on exercise physiology. You will have the opportunity for exercise related experimental design in the lab portion.
Fulfills: Adv Physio Course and lab in Physio, Elective and 2nd lab in MCD. Area 4 lab for both Generals. Breadth for Plant
BIOL 497 - Biology by the Numbers - Quantitative reasoning and order-of-magnitude estimates to frame precise biological questions in quantitative terms. We will consider a wide range biological systems, from molecules to ecosystems.
Fulfills: Electives for both Generals, Plant, EEC, MCD and Physio.
