Hello Biology Students,
The NIH T32-funded training program in Basic Microbiology & Infectious Diseases (BMID; http://bmid.mgm.ufl.edu/<https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://bmid.mgm.ufl.edu/__;!!K-Hz7m0Vt54!iwUqjObY3hoe8ixxD9mNYW0aU2LLABzzJRIi8uA2RMrQiNg5CxYDw96LsvhaewrfzZOhIDXJHBJQ$>) at the University of Florida is looking for interns!
As part of this training program, they have created the BMID-associated Summer Internship in Microbiology Research (SIMR) program (http://simr.mgm.ufl.edu/<https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://simr.mgm.ufl.edu/__;!!K-Hz7m0Vt54!iwUqjObY3hoe8ixxD9mNYW0aU2LLABzzJRIi8uA2RMrQiNg5CxYDw96LsvhaewrfzZOhIK8ax2NO$>) to provide a 10-week summer internship to promising undergraduates interested in microbiology and infectious disease-related research careers. They are particularly interested in recruiting students from underrepresented groups. This program provides the following opportunities for the interns:
1. Perform full-time research in a UF microbiology lab with mentorship from a graduate student and faculty member from May 19 – July 25, 2025
2. Weekly microbiology seminars
3. Weekly professional development meetings to learn all about graduate school, from the application process to possible career paths
4. Mock grad school interviews with UF faculty members
5. A SIMR Mini-Symposium at the end of the summer where they present their research findings
6. Plenty of social activities to build community among the interns and their graduate mentors
7. $5000 stipend + housing
