SEFS has a special offering this Summer of ESRM 300 (SSc / NSc) with Professor Lisa Graumlich - now open to all majors!  Professor Graumlich is:

  *   A Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Ecological Society of America.
  *   President of the American Geophysical Union.
  *   A nationally recognized expert in the field of Sustainability!
  *   Dean Emerita of the College of the Environment, UW Seattle
  *   Getting ready to retire, so this is likely a final offering with this professor!
  *   This course is normally ONLY open to ESRM Majors - we have made extra space available and opened this to all majors this summer.  This is the time to catch this course!

Through the lens of community, environmental justice, and multidisciplinary collaboration, how can we achieve environmental balance, and create a sustainable world?  Learn from leaders in sustainability, discuss and discover principles of sustainability far beyond the carbon footprint, and learn about resources leading us to a better future. Overview of principles of sustainability, including discussion of current literature, presentation, and discussion with practitioners, and methods for balancing social, economic, and ecological consequences of proposed policies and actions.

Students taking this course have expressed a shift in thinking from hopelessness, to a recognition of the many ways in which sustainability is being addressed from broad applications of scientific research to individual and community actions.  And how the vitality of community, environmental justice, and multidisciplinary collaboration can move to formulate solutions to the climate crises at a local and personal level, as well as a community or global level.
