Congratulations again to all our geography students who participated in the UW Undergraduate Research Symposium last Friday! And there are still 2 more opportunities coming up to share your awesome research with a public audience:
* The 2024 Geography Undergraduate Research Symposium<https://geography.washington.edu/geography-undergraduate-research-symposium> takes place on Friday, May 31, 10:00 AM-2:00 PM Pacific Time. Please plan to attend and consider submitting a proposal to participate in the symposium to share your research with our department community! We would love to showcase the geography research you've conducted this year in courses, clubs, jobs, internships, volunteer projects - any opportunity you've had to dig deeper on a subject that is meaningful to you and resonates with what you've been learning in your geography major. There are many ways to participate in the symposium both in-person and online, synchronous and asynchronous, and just like every year there will be prizes!
* Live Lightning Talk Presentation (3-5 minutes)
* Pre-Recorded Presentation
* Digital Projects
* Written Paper/Essay
* Other Ideas?
* Please complete the 2024 Geography Undergraduate Research Symposium Student Participant Sign-Up Form<https://forms.gle/TZXqTG7x1NwxmNAL6> by Wednesday, May 22, at the latest. We will follow up with all participants to help you prepare for the event.
* The eighth Annual University of Washington GIS Symposium will be held on Thursday, May 30, in the Allen Library Research Commons. The Symposium is presented with co-sponsorship from the UW Center for Studies in Demography and Ecology<https://csde.washington.edu/>.
* The GIS Symposium highlights and celebrates the transformational role of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and data visualization technologies at the UW and beyond. The event will feature short talks from the UW GIS community followed by a keynote presentation on our new Planet.com<https://guides.lib.uw.edu/research/gis/planet?_gl=1*nytc7t*_ga*MTMxNjIzNzMyNS4xNzAyNTkzMzMx*_ga_63X2ZQHK8P*MTcxMzk3ODQ4NS4xNDAuMS4xNzEzOTc5Njk1LjAuMC4w> resource.
* Give a Presentation!
* This event invites students of all levels and experiences to share their unique mapping projects to help inspire and educate our UW community about the many different ways this technology can be used to highlight research work and impact. SUBMIT A PROPOSAL TO PRESENT A TALK HERE.<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/washington.libwizard.com/id/e915d806c537a89c07fbb19dbfb0a10f?_gl=1*1av7dr*_ga*MTkwNzQwODczLjE2MTExNzQzMDU.*_ga_63X2ZQHK8P*MTcxNDk1Mjc5Ni4xNC4wLjE3MTQ5NTI4MDQuMC4wLjA.__;KioqKio!!K-Hz7m0Vt54!mgiCATT8uF-ortqVzuRrrsYP37COYPV2AlFKUwj5LtHFKBDMqC7FpWrj_ao2viJquZ6ThJsewJi-qIeDTmVV_UKxmASJsg$>
* Each presenter will give a very brief "lighting talk" (around 5 minutes) explaining and sharing their mapping work. Participating in the Symposium makes a great addition to your resume, and all presentations will be included in the UW GIS Symposium Proceedings<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.google.com/url?q=https:**Auw.manifoldapp.org*projects*gis-symposiums&sa=D&source=docs&ust=1713983635664172&usg=AOvVaw2AzCsu-zEMi3s9IG-F3TeW__;Ly8vLw!!K-Hz7m0Vt54!mgiCATT8uF-ortqVzuRrrsYP37COYPV2AlFKUwj5LtHFKBDMqC7FpWrj_ao2viJquZ6ThJsewJi-qIeDTmVV_UJRmjbJNA$>, which are published to UW Research Works! Projects from all disciplines and subjects are welcome.
* Watch and Learn
* Even if you aren't presenting, all are welcomed and encouraged to attend the event and reception, and to learn more about all of the great GIS mapping work, tools and tech being used at UW and beyond!
